All these books sell steadily around the world, and Korean and Turkish translations are available. While these are hard-core engineering books with a specialist audience, they do have the following three links to Peterhouse:
- The title of the first book is a close translation of the school motto (I only just realized this).
- The second book mentions that Rhodesian granite kopjes are an outstanding example of exfoliation jointing formed by stress relief.
- In the third book, one of the key concepts, as taught by John Greenacre, is the double integration of gravity acceleration to develop equations for the motion of a projectile. This led to the study of astro-physics and the behaviour of irregular bodies tumbling through space, which in turn led to my current work in the design of improved structures for protecting highways and railways against rock fall hazards. A long way from 6th Form mathematics classes!
